Foreign Service Act amendment sought
Former Philippine Ambassador and senatorial candidate Jose Apolinario “Jun” Lozada, Jr. vowed to amend the Philippine Foreign Service Act once elected, particularly by increasing the ratio to 80 – 20 favoring career ambassadors to ensure that they not be bypassed by political appointees.
Lozada said that among his platforms is to “Amend the Philippine Foreign Service Act to immediately effect the provision of an 80-20 ratio between the career and non-career ambassadors and zero appointment of non career officials in the lower ranks.”
Speaking at a Foreign Service Forum attended by the Union of Foreign Service Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs , Lozada said, “I wish to reassure you, that if elected in the Senate, I will tirelessly work to pass a new law for us and to correct the malpractices being implemented by the present dispensation.”
