Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential bet Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro’s firm resolve to pursue his candidacy amid speculations of the so-called “Villaroyo” alliance has won for the ruling party standard bearer concern from political foes and spurred allies to act swiftly in solidifying support for his candidacy.

In a statement, opposition senatorial bet Gen. Danilo Lim said that being a qualified presidential bet, Teodoro should not throw in the towel but instead, sever his ties with President Arroyo.

“I only have respect and admiration for Teodoro. I believe he is a worthy presidential contender. The people are not asking him to quit from the presidential race. He has all the right and qualifications to run,” Lim said.

Earlier, Liberal Party presidential bet Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III described Teodoro as the latest in a long line of “victims” of the Arroyo government.

Rumors that Teodoro was on the brink of giving up the presidential race have prompted the Lakas-Kampi-CMD to organize an emergency caucus in a bid to draw new strategies to direct members to toe the party line and support Teodoro.

To avert further defections from the party, officials led by newly designated chairperson Deputy Speaker Ma. Amelita Villarosa have also agreed to act swiftly in addressing problems affecting the election campaign of its 12,900 local bets, particularly the immediate release of logistical support and campaign funds.

Villarosa said Tuesday, party leaders are expected to release a manifesto of support for Teodoro and the entire Lakas-Kampi-CMD national ticket, adding that the document would assure them that they will never waver in their objective to win the May 10 elections.

Also Tuesday, several newspapers and television stations dignified text messages spreading rumors that Teodoro will announce his withdrawal at a press conference Monday.

As expected, the information in the text messages proved to be hoax with Teodoro himself categorically denying he was giving up his presidential bid.

Lim, who is currently detained for allegedly threatening national security, said Teodoro must declare his independence from the Arroyo government if he wants to be rid himself of the Arroyo “dummy” tag.
