Lapid better bet than Noynoy, says Gordon

Having a President Lito Lapid is indeed far-fetched, but for Bagumbayan presidential bet Sen. Richard Gordon, the actor-turned-politician is a better candidate for president than Sen. Noynoy Aquino of the Liberal Party.

Gordon said Lapid is more qualified for the presidency than Aquino because he has passed one law in six years in Congress, while Aquino has none in his 12 years in Congress.

Lapid is now running for re-election in the Senate.

"Nine years in Congress and he has not passed a single bill. He spent nine years as a congressman and three years in the Senate and he has no record of accomplishments that he can show the people," Gordon said.

"Lito Lapid is much better because he was able to pass one bill," he added.

The Lapid Law, or the Free Legal Assistance Act of 2010, gives incentives of tax deductions to lawyers who will render free legal services to poor litigants.

The law grants deductions to the annual taxable income of lawyers equal to the amount that could have been collected from free legal services rendered, or ten percent of the annual gross income derived from the actual practice of the legal profession, whichever is lower.

The Lapid Law will allow poor litigants the same access as the rich have to the best legal services in the country.
