Comelec approves NP-NPC alliance
The alliance between the Nacionalista Party (NP) and the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition (NPC) has been approved by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“Yes, we already signed the resolution yesterday (Wednesday),” Comelec Commissioner Lucenito Tagle told Manila Bulletin.
But the resolution, he said, has yet to be promulgated.
Tagle said the Liberal Party (LP), which was questioning the merger of NP and NPC, failed to prove their allegations against the two parties.
“They could not prove the allegations that the coalition is a sham,” he said.
Upon approval of the coalition, Tagle said, the people in their field will check if the NP and NPC coalition really has the large number of candidate for the local positions.
“If they could prove that they have the numbers, then most likely they could be declared as the dominant minority,” he said.
It was recalled that the NP and NPC applied for the dominant minority party in the May 10 polls.
According to Tagle, they might already come out with the resolution for the dominant minority and majority party next week.
The dominant minority party will be entitled to a copy of the election returns, copy of the certificate of canvass among others.
The NP was elated over the Comelec resolution and is looking forward to being declared the dominant minority party.
NP senatorial bet and spokesperson Gilbert Remulla said they are very happy that the alliance and partnership coalition of the NP and NPC had finally been recognized by the poll body. (With a report from Hannah L. Torregoza)
