Liberal Party presidential candidate Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Thursday disclosed that scores of “warm bodies” from rival political camps will be joining their party within the next few weeks.

“We expect scores of incumbent and aspiring politicians from other political parties who have signaled their intent to join our cause but are just waiting for the right time to come out. They have given the exact date they plan to join LP and we understand and respect that,” Aquino told reporters during a recent campaign sortie in Baclaran.

Aquino said there are others who have already publicized their intent but the LP has yet to receive their formal submission for membership and they expect this to happen “within a week or so.” However, those who have indicated their intent to join LP will still go through the normal process for membership.

“LP is not under dictatorial rule. There has to be a consensus among the members with regards to who we should accept as members. We cannot impose our personal choice on who should be accepted,” Aquino said.

“To a large degree (Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II) and I would discuss and talk to the person joining LP if he completely supports our platform of governance. Even during my mother’s (the late President Cory Aquino) time if you endorse someone you should be able to guarantee the person’s character and that he believes in the party’s cause,” the senator from Tarlac added.

With regards to talks that the transfer of allegiance of several Lakas-Kampi-CMD stalwarts to his rival Senator Manny Villar could only strengthen the alleged cheating machinery of the Nacionalista Party, Aquino said “It is hard to throw a blanket accusation.”
