SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga – President Arroyo could contribute a command vote of at least 22 percent of the country’s voting population for the political cause of Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential candidate, Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro Jr.

Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, eldest of Mrs. Arroyo’s three children, said results of poll surveys on Mrs. Arroyo’s popularity ratings indicate that at least 22 percent of Filipinos remain loyal to the president and are contented with her government.

“If surveys were to be the gauge, 22 percent of the population will also heed the President’s appeal to vote for Gibo and his ticket,” the young Arroyo explained.

Mikey said that despite poll survey reports indicating that Teodoro could only muster the support of seven to nine percent of the total Filipino voters, the ruling party standard bearer is a cinch in the presidential race, now that the president and the Lakas-Kampi-CMD have united to endorse his candidacy.

On Tuesday, Mrs. Arroyo issued marching orders to the national executive committee of the administration party to go all out for Teodoro, vice-presidential bet Edu Manzano and the six senatorial bets, namely: Senators Lito Lapid and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Ramon Guico, Silvestre Bello, Rey Langit and Raul Lambino.

As if on signal, the Arroyo brothers, Reps. Dato Arroyo of Camarines Sur and Mikey, together with their uncle, Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo, led campaign rallies for Teodoro and the Lakas-Kampi-CMD team in their respective congressional districts.

The Arroyo clan support for Teodoro put an end to speculations that First Gentleman had been secretly campaigning for opposition presidential bet Sen. Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party.

At least 30,000 Bicolanos turned up in campaign rallies in Albay and Camarines Sur which were organized by Rep. Dato, Rep. Edcel Lagman, former budget secretary Rolando Andaya and Albay Gov. Joey Sarte-Salceda on Monday and Tuesday.

Mikey, on the other hand, helped Reps. Aurelio Gonzales and Carmelo Lazatin in gathering at least 1,000 barangay leaders and local officials who pledge support for Teodoro here.

Iggy, on the other hand, played host to the Lakas-Kampi-CMD national team who attended a hectic schedule of campaign activities in Albay Friday.

The 20 member-strong Pampanga Mayors League pledged a “One Pampanga for Gibo”, vowing to deliver no less than 85 percent of the more than one million voters of the province for the former defense secretary, his running mate Edu Manzano along with their six senatorial bets.

Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo, spokesman of the Pampanga Mayors’ League, said Teodoro has the solid support of the region, including the mayors of 20 cities and municipalities, plus local officials down the line.

He added that “85 to 88 percent of the more than one million Kapampangan voters, are for Gibo.”

“The support boils down to the locals’ belief that the Harvard graduate and 1989 bar topnotcher can effectively lead the country to progress, and that he can finally lead the country to unity,” Pelayo said.

Earlier, Gibo had secured the backing of 50 provincial governors, who had banded together under G4G, or Governors for Gibo, to reiterate their support for the presidential bid of the former defense secretary. These governors, led by Governors Gwen Garcia of Cebu, Miguel Dominguez of Sarangani and Joey Salceda of Albay vowed to stick with Teodoro up to the May 10 elections.
