BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has urged Caraganons to join the “10 Million Movement” (10MM) for Mother Earth on April 22.

The DENR in Northeastern Mindanao also requested all local government units (LGUs), non-government organization (NGOs), environmental groups, church leaders, academe, schools, and practically all sectors of society to participate this year’s “10MM.”

The forthcoming “10MM” activity is part of the nationwide Earth Day 2010 celebration, said DENR Regional Executive Director Edilberto S, Buiser.

The celebration with its theme “Hamon ng Panahon: Climate Change, 10 Milyong Solusyon (Kilos na! Ngayon Na!),” encourages people of all walks of life to participate.

Buiser said recognizing climate change is the most pressing issue today especially given the vulnerability of “our country to its consequences as proven by the recent experiences with typhoons “Ondoy” and “Pepeng” thus the movement was conceptualized.”

The Earth Day Network Philippines, together with the DENR, the Batasan Kalikasan Foundation, other stakeholders, partners and members, are leading the “10MM” – a movement of men and women who stand up for the environment.

“We invite everyone to be one with us to take the stand for the integrity of creation by joining the 10MM,” DENR officials said.

The DENR officials also urge all family members, relatives, friends and officemates to do the same so that they can also create a critical mass of individuals championing the environment.

The goal of the April 22 activity is to gather 10 million individual commitments to do something for Mother Earth.

Buiser said that the celebration becomes more relevant as “we face disasters all over the world.”
