Nacionalista Party presidential bet Sen. Manuel Villar, Jr. Sunday vowed to field his own candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives should he win the presidency in the upcoming elections.

Villar said his party will field its own candidate to fight President Arroyo’s possible bid for the speakership should she win a seat in the 15th Congress.

Despite his critics' persistent attempts to link him with Mrs. Arroyo and consistently tagging him as a “Villarroyo,” Villar maintained that he owes nothing to the President.

Villar said he and Mrs. Arroyo have not been on speaking terms since his ouster as Senate President in 2008 by her allies in the chamber.

“I just want to clarify that we are going to field our own candidate for the House Speakership,” Villar said in a radio interview.

“Hindi naman kami nag-uusap ng Pangulo. Wala naman akong utang na loob sa kanya, at hindi naman kami nag-uusap na maging Speaker siya (the President and I are not talking. I don’t owe her anything, and we never talked about her speakership bid),” Villar said.

Mrs. Arroyo, who is seeking a congressional seat in the 2nd district of Pampanga, is the first outgoing Philippine president to run for a seat in the Lower House, following a supposed “clamor” by her province mates to pursue public service.

Critics claimed that Mrs. Arroyo is after parliamentary immunity amid threats from her political foes to file suits against her.

The NP has maintained that the Philippines has “seen more than enough of Mrs. Arroyo, and if we can’t stop her from winning a seat at the House of Representatives, then we vow to put up a good fight to stop her from taking the speakership.”
