DFA to discuss Raj’s case, will create ad hoc committee
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is looking into the case of dethroned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Venus Raj, this according to attorney Ed Malaya, DFA spokesperson.
In an interview aired on DZMM, Malaya disclosed that the department is planning to create an ad hoc committee specific to the case.
“The committee will be presenting its finding and recommendation after two weeks,” he revealed.
The DFA was dragged into the issue after the Araneta Group, the organization that handles the affairs of Bininibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI), has asked Raj to produce a valid Philippine passport as part of the condition set for her reinstatement.
"We have reassessed the situation pertaining to Miss Maria Venus Raj and have decided, for humanitarian reasons, that if she is able to obtain a valid Philippine passport, we will reinstate her as the reigning Bb Pilipinas-Universe," the organization said in a statement last week.
Though the decision is seen by many seemingly as a “softening” on BPCI's part, Raj is still apparently apprehensive.
“I want to clear the requirements of the condition that [the BCPI] had set. My lawyers are still trying to schedule a meeting with them,” said she in an interview with DZMM.
Raj said she is worried about how the decision would actually impact on her training and preparation for the Miss Universe pageant, set for August to September this year.
She is also wondering why the BPCI is allegedly letting her do “everything all by myself.”
“Shouldn’t [the BCPI] be helping me [with] my passport? How about my training? Getting a passport will take time and if they are going to reinstate me only after I acquire a passport, how will I go about with my training? I have to clear these issues with them first.”
