Kitchen blaze closes down Greenbelt 3
Some P500,000 worth of property were destroyed by a fire which hit a restaurant inside the Greenbelt 3 in Makati City last April 15, 2010.
FO2 Segundino Comon, arson investigator of the Makati Fire Department, reported that the fire started at around 6:46 pm inside the kitchen of the Bollywood Restaurant located at Level 3 of the said mall.
Francis Villas, the assistant cook of the said restaurant, told arson investigators that before the incident he was preparing a dish when he noticed that something was burning from their ceiling.
"Umuusok na daw, tapos pag tingala niya sa ceiling, ayun na nga nasusunog na nga 'yung bubong," FO2 Common said.
During its height, the fire reached the 3rd alarm, meriting the cordoning-off of the said area.
Some establishments as well as movie houses were temporarily closed to allow firefighters to contain the blaze more easily.
Fire Marshall Samuel Tadeo, who also acted as the ground commander in the area, said that they had a hard time putting out the fire as it was very difficult to trace the source of the flames.
The fire was put under control at around 9:21 pm and eventually put out at 11:28 pm.
FO2 Comon said that they had a hard time putting it out because at the time the ceiling was already engulfed in thick black smoke.
Eventually, fire investigators learned that the fire originated from the exhaust duct on the ceiling area, which was heavily burned.
