Consolidation of poll results pushed

An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said there is a proposal for the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) to conduct the public consolidation of the election results from each of the 76,000 clustered precincts on May 10 polls.

Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said the two organizations will do the consolidation as the data transmitted from precincts will not be totaled.

“We have democratized it… everyone can do a quick count,” he said.

Larrazabal said what the organizations will be receiving are raw data from each of the clustered polling precincts so these are not consolidated yet.

“If the PCOS (Precinct Count Optical Scan) machines transmit, immediately, that data will be available to them… the thrust is that we will be releasing data every so often specific times of the day,” he said.

But the public, Larrazabal said, can also monitor real time results in their website.

He said so as to be able to accommodate as many visitors as possible they are also set to come up with “mirror websites”

The poll official, meantime, reminded media entities to be careful when reporting poll results.

“We have to be careful on reporting this. It might affect the results… you must always say partial and unofficial,” Larrazabal said.

As the official citizens’ arm of the Comelec for the 2010 national polls, the PPCRV is entitled to the fourth copy of the election returns (ERs) while the Poll Automation Law entitled media entities, such as the KBP, to the 21st to 24th copies of the ER. (Leslie Ann Aquino)
