‘Rock The Vote’ taps volunteers for political change
Twenty years ago, it is People Power that helped restore democracy, and the power of the people for change is once again being tapped. This is a weapon of the people that cannot be overpowered by politics, showing the strength of a people united and in solidarity.
The power of the people once again reared its power, pushing for a candidate who is determined to break money politics’ ugly head to help the country move forward. With the rise of Senator Noynoy Aquino, who heeded the call to help rid the country of dirty politics through the Rock the Vote Caravan, a caravan participated in by volunteers, form the ordinary people to musical icons and showbiz celebrities – all volunteers – the people now have hope and would use all its might to help Senator Aquino to the presidency come May 10.
Another element of the power of the people that will come into play is the youth. The power of the youth has become an integral factor in all the successes as a nation. The Rock the Vote Caravan was the platform to capture the attention of the youth to raise its voice through a medium they totally understand. The youth was again at the forefront of Rock the Vote Caravan as they carefully planned, executed and delivered results to ensure the caravan’s success.
Music is also another element of people power that will truly come at play. Music, being the universal language, is the best medium that the youth can understand perfectly well, music also being their avenue to express and articulate their dreams and aspirations, even the dream of a morally and politically upright nation and government. The Rock the Vote Caravan, a concert tour that featured the country’s top rock bands and showbiz celebrities, is youth’s own way of presenting a political platform minus the usual rhetorical but boring speeches.
Multimedia is another platform. The Rock the Vote Caravan employed empowering visuals and images, including special music videos that communicated effectively the campaign’s key messages, including the political platforms the Liberal Party candidates stand on. The music videos featured Senator Noynoy Aquino and Senator Mar Roxas, plus the SLAMAT LORRRD senatoriables as they elucidated their key messages.
Aside from the music videos, infomercials will educate the young voters, especially those who will vote for the first time about the intricacies of the new automated voting system. Also, the Rock the Vote Caravan tapped the power of the New Media by showing the caravan in real time through live video streaming via satellite transmission, and this New Media will also help distribute content to as many Web sites and social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Friendster, Plurk and even blogs to reach as many people as possible.
