Lucy Torres is ready to leave the dance floor to enter the political arena.

The TV host-dancer is replacing her husband Richard Gomez as the Liberal Party’s congressional bet in the fourth district of Leyte following his disqualification to run for the post.

“They were very persistent with the disqualification case. There were already talks that it might have come to this. I may have to substitute. We’re ready. We’re prepared,” said Torres in a phone interview aired on “24 Oras” last April 29.

In another recorded phone interview, Gomez maintained that they have decided to have him replaced by his better half to also “prove that I’m not here for personal glory. I’m doing this to help the people of Ormoc.”

Gomez was disqualified by the Commission on Election (Comelec) last February due to “lack of residency.”

The petition was filed by Buenaventura Juntilla, a former barangay chairman said to be an ally of Gomez’s opponent, in December last year. He claims that Gomez is not a legitimate resident of Ormoc because he has not lived there for at least a year, which is the minimum residency requirement for local candidates.

Gomez then filed a motion for reconsideration on February 20, arguing that he has been a resident of his wife’s hometown for two years now.

While the case is still pending, the aspiring politician said via text message that they “will not wait for en banc decision to come out. That way we will not have to go to the Supreme Court to fight another battle and spend more money, time and effort if we win this election.”
