As survey results for the upcoming elections dominate the front pages and the airwaves, the business community has asked the public to be more discerning stressing they hold the key to the doors of the presidency and other important positions in the country.

Francis Chua, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), said that voters still hold the key and not the surveys.

Whether what they say about the surveys are true or not, one fact remains prominent, that the public has the final say on the fate of the candidates, that no matter how well crafted surveys are, the public still holds the key to the doors of the president and other important positions in the country, said Chua in a speech before the PCCI general membership meeting, whose guest speaker was Ronald D. Holmes, the president of Pulse Asia International, which has been running several surveys during this election season.

Chua said this as how noted how the various surveys conducted in the past months have played a major role in the election campaign.

Chua said there are those who believe that surveys are a way to influence the public s decision, most especially the demographic of the undecided voters.

According to Chua, for a survey results to be credible it must have a scientific basis because how can a sample of 2,000 become representative of the entire voting population.

We should know what scientific method they are using, how do they conduct the survey, and how do they choose survey respondents from the whole universe, Chua said.

Because if the surveys are true, then there is no need for the holding of the elections, he said. (BCM)
