Rains expected this long weekend
The country will be in for a wet, long weekend as isolated to scattered rain showers are expected in most parts of the country until Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saturday.
PAGASA weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said the cold front prevailing north of Luzon is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Northern and Central Luzon, including Metro Manila, until Monday.
He said the scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected mostly in the afternoon that will last until the evening.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces were drenched by rains last Friday, caused by the prevailing weather system in Luzon.
“The cold front in Luzon is on a see-saw movement causing the prolonged rainy days, but it maintains its position in that part of the country,” Quitlong explained.
Citing the PAGASA data, Quitlong said Dagupan City in Pangasinan recorded the highest rainfall during a 24-hour monitoring with 75.9 millimeters.
Baguio City came in second with 46.4 millimeters, followed by Aparri in Cagayan Valley with 43 millimeters.
Meanwhile, the government facility in Quezon City recorded a meager rainfall of 15 millimeters in 24 hours in the metropolis.
The rains last Friday was still not enough to restore enough water in Angat Dam in Bulacan because of the continuing decline in the dam’s water elevation.
As of 6 a.m. Saturday, Angat Dam remains at a critical level of 176.51 meters, which is 0.20 meters lower than its recorded level last Friday.
The current level of Angat Dam is also 9.89 meters, short of its normal operating rule curve.
