Baron on Julia: 'I don’t believe hinarass ko siya'

It’s been almost a month now since actor Baron Geisler got involved in another controversy—this time, a supposed sexual harassment incident involving singer-actress Julia Clarete.

The incident reportedly happened on April 10, during the wrap party at a bar in Quezon City for the indie movie in which Geisler appears. Clarete was not part of the production, but had shown up at the party.

“The Buzz” had Mark Meily, the movie’s director, appear on their May 3 report to say that Geisler had indeed been drinking that night and that, after a song number from the two, “‘Yun nga sabi nila inakbayan… parang hinalikan ni Baron si Julia sa leeg. May nagbanggit sa akin na… hinipuan ni Baron si Julia,” Meily carefully said, pointing out in the same statement that he did not actually see the incident happen.

While Clarete continues to elude the media frantic for her comment, especially with reports surfacing that she is planning to file a case against the actor, Geisler, for his part, makes an appearance on “The Buzz” to set the record straight.

“I don’t believe na hinarass ko siya,” Geisler responded to the point-blank question. “And me and Julia are close friends. At unang-una, if I did anything… Julia is one of the boys; she would punch you right away. She would do something. Siya pa nga ang nag-hatid sa akin sa kotse,” he related.

Geisler said he and Clarete had since exchanged text messages, but had not spoken about the "incident."

Questioned by "The Buzz" host Boy Abunda, Geisler insisted that, “Yeah, I’m okay at work… everything is good… sa personal… [And] it’s been close to a month na since that incident… that I haven’t been…”

“That you haven’t touched anything,” Boy finished for him.

But more importantly, Geisler admitted, “Ayoko na talagang lumabas, like kung may magyayaya sa akin, kasi lagi lang akong nasisilipan eh. Makitaan lang ako na may hawak na bote, parang… ‘Ah, ano kayang next na gagawin niya.’”

He added, “Sakto ngayon, I’m so blessed with work. Almost everyday, nagtatrabaho ka… I’m so glad na binigyan ako... ng chance… na may tiwala pa rin [sila] sa akin.”

Geisler apparently has several projects lined up, namely a teleserye, an afternoon show, the aforementioned indie film and a Star Cinema project he truly hopes would push through.

Whatever bad boy rap the actor has been getting lately for his reported inappropriate behavior, his talents still afford him a reputation in showbiz as one of the most gifted actors of this generation, which Abunda also declared before he launched his interview.

Abunda likewise called him “inside and out… a beautiful person.”

“Ako naman kasi, you know, maraming nagsasabi I have a beautiful heart,” Geisler said matter-of-factly. “Kahit na may mga kontrobersiya na ganyan, and I believe yung iba talagang gawa-gawa lang… Nakikita pa rin ng tao… sa mata ko… sa personalidad ko—especially ‘yung mga katrabaho ko po—na I’m an OK guy.”

In 2008, Geisler landed in the news when William Martinez and Yayo Aguila’s daughter, Patrizha Maree Martinez, filed a suit against him for “acts of lasciviousness” [Geisler reportedly filed a counter suit, and a perjury suit against Aguila].

In 2009, Geisler was again accused of sexual harassment by his “Suspetsa” co-star Yasmien Kurdi.

Last Sunday’s interview, however, showed a seemingly wiser Geisler. “Dati kasi parang gusto ko magpaka-rock star. So I think it’s now time for a change, parang I don’t wanna be this rock n’ roll actor. I just want to be an actor who’s employed. Kasi it’s hard. Before ako binigyan ng work dito sa ABS, close to six months akong walang trabaho and I really felt bad. Kasi parang, ‘Wow what am I doing, what’s happening? I need to work, should I go abroad and work there?’”

While he thanked network executives and directors he’s worked with, as well as his fans and his mom for always standing by him, Geisler only had a brief message to Clarete.

“'Tol, ayos ‘yan,” he said vaguely—hinting at a seeming unspoken understanding with her.

Before the interview ended, Geisler also revealed, “Nagusap kami ni Jake [Cuenca]. Sabi niya, ‘'Tol, na realize ko rin ‘yung mga celebrity parties, wala naman tayong makukuha riyan eh.’ So salamat, Jake, for the advice.”

Hopefully, it's one he’d truly take to heart.
