Despite lingering concerns of fraud and failure of the polls by some sectors, Malacañang is looking forward to the triumph of the country's first automated elections with a promise to respect and support the incoming administration.

Deputy Presidential Spokesman Gary Olivar also urged voters to elect a new set of government leaders based on their conscience and not trade their right for money or survey.

"We join the nation in praying and looking forward to our first-ever successful automated election today, one of the President's key commitments from her Beat The Odds agenda way back in 2001," Olivar said.

"The whole world is watching today, as too are our young to whom we bequeath the future benefits of this innovation in suffrage, as well as the spirits of our heroes who died so that we might enjoy this precious right to vote and the freedom to make its exercise even more secure and meaningful," he said.

"For their sakes, let us overcome our fear of the unknown-which is natural - and embrace this new challenge - which is noble. Let us offer up - to the memory of our past and to the promise of our future - our labors and sacrifices to ensure the resounding success of this milestone on this day," the Palace official added.

Olivar said the executive branch, through the police, military and public school teachers, would do its share for the success of the computerized polls under the leadership of the Commission on Elections.

He likewise reminded the people to vote only their conscience. "The truly wasted vote is the one that is sold for money or merely traded for the opinions of a handful of survey respondents. Whether your candidate wins or loses, if you think he or she deserves public office, then surely he or she also deserves the courage of your own vote," he said.

Olivar also gave an assurance the outgoing Arroyo administration would ensure smooth transition of power to the duly-elected government.

"Lastly, we assure our people that after the election, regardless of whoever is chosen to form the next leadership, this Administration will put all of its resources behind a successful transition of power and preserving the stability and continuity of our republican institutions and processes," he said.
