Surpassing four other candidates, former actress Guia Gomez was proclaimed the new mayor of San Juan City Tuesday morning.

Succeding his son, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Gomez won the mayoral election via lanslide victory, earning 42,119 votes or almost 75% of the total votes in the said city.

Ranking next to Gomez is Alton Glena Angeles with 3,840 votes. Gomez's proclamation was attended by presidential candidate Joseph "Erap" Estrada.

Attorney Ronald Allan Sindo, chairman of Comelec-San Juan, said that despite minimal problems encountered in several PCOS machines, the transmission of election returns within their area was seamless.

"The election officers were able to resolve the problems on the machines. In fact, all the election returns were transmitted wirelessly that we didn't use the card reader allotted here at the canvassing area," Sindo added.

Meanwhile, former city councilor Franciso Zamora will be replacing Leonardo "Boy" Celles as vice mayor of San Juan. Zamora also gained a lanslide victory against Alexander Enriquez with 45,282 votes. Former Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito grabs the Congressional seat unopposed.
