Lucy will continue showbiz career even if elected congresswoman

Lucy Torres-Gomez, wife of actor Richard Gomez, affirmed her intention to continue with her showbiz career even if she’s elected congresswoman in the 4th district of Leyte.
Lucy, a substitute candidate for Richard after Comelec ruled with finality his disqualification for residency issues, was leading in the polls in Ormoc, Leyte as of May 11, 8:30 p.m.
In a phone interview aired on “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Lucy stressed there is no need for her to sacrifice her TV hosting job.
“I think I can do my job in congress without compromising my commitment sa work ko. In the same way that I can do my job in showbiz without compromising my responsibility as congresswoman,” Lucy said.
Lucy hosts QTV 11’s “The Sweet Life” with comedienne Wilma Doesnt, and TV 5’s “Shall We Dance.”
Husband Richard, who was disqualified by Comelec to run as congressman because of issues regarding his residency, is overwhelmed by the impending victory of his wife.
“Natutuwa ako dahil naging victorious si Lucy. Alam ko na si Lucy, na isang masipag na tao, mayroon siyang malasakit sa mga tao sa 4th district sa Leyte and I’m very sure na si Lucy (ay) magtatrabaho nang husto para sa ikabubuti at ikauunlad ng distrito namin,” Richard said.
“We have to respect the electoral process that people have the right to choose who they want their leaders to be. Hindi dahil lang dinis-qualify mo ang mga opponents mo. Masaya na ako na natuloy (ang candidacy ko),” Lucy explained.
On hindsight, Richard recalls that it seemed providential that he underwent a series of legal battles in his bid to run for congress.
“Marami kaming pinagdaanan na mga legal battles na sa tingin ko unnecessary, pero sa tingin ko iyon siguro ‘yung reason kung bakit naging makulay ‘yung eleksyon sa amin dito sa Ormoc.”
