Binay to Roxas: ‘Stop speculating’
Leading vice presidential bet Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay on Monday called on the camp of his rival Liberal Party bet Senator Mar Roxas to stick to official documents and refrain from speculating on the results of the race for the second highest government post in the archipelago.
Binay was reacting to the claim of the LP that Roxas would win the race via a hairline victory despite Binay’s consistent lead in the partial count of the Commission on Elections and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting.
“Stick to official documents. Be factual, don’t speculate. Don’t sow confusion,” Binay said at a press conference in his office at the Makati City Hall.
Binay noted that the LP as the dominant minority party should have a copy of the certificates of canvass (CoCs) and they should use such as their basis.
Roxas had said that he would overcome Binay’s lead if the votes from his bailiwicks would be reflected on the Comelec tally.
But Binay said that based on the partial tally of the Comelec, PPCRV and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas, he would win the vice presidential race.
He noted that what should be the tally of the Comelec and poll watchdog PPCRV should be the same tally that LP has as the dominant majority party.
Binay said he is feeling great for being in the lead of the partial tabulation of votes.
Despite his excitement, Binay said he still has enough hours of sleep at night.
He admitted though that he has been preparing for his imminent assumption of the vice presidential post.
“As the motto of Boy Scouts of the Philippines states, be prepared,” said Binay, a former chief of the BSP said.
Meanwhile, in a press conference held in Makati City, Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) senatorial bet JV Bautista accused the camp of Roxas of conditioning the minds of the public that Roxas might take over the vice presidential race.
“Our call is for them (LP) to present the CoCs. If they are claiming that they are leading the counting, back them up with figures,” said Bautista.
He also questioned authenticity of the CoCs “they (LP) alone have” since the Commission on Elections, the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas have the same copy.
