UE seeks Filoil quarters vs NU

University of the East shoots for a quarterfinal berth when it battles National University this Wednesday in the 2010 Filoil Flying V Tanduay First Five Preseason Invitational Cup.

The Red Warriors is coming off a disappointing 93-92 double overtime setback to Jose Rizal University last Saturday that saw them drop to solo fifth with a 4-3 record.

A victory over the Bulldogs in their 5 p.m. showdown at The Arena in San Juan would help the squad of coach Lawrence Chongson finish their campaign at 5-3 while awaiting the fate of other quarterfinal aspirants San Sebastian, Adamson, and defending champion Far Eastern University.

The Stags are currently in second place at 4-1, trailing Group B leader JRU (6-1) while the Falcons and the Tamaraws are tied for third with identical 3-2 slates. The top four teams from each group will advance to the crossover quarterfinals.

Paul Lee is expected to carry UE on his broad shoulders. In the loss to the Heavy Bombers, he fired 34 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out six assists and stole the ball six times in 45 minutes of action.

Adamson, meanwhile, seeks its fourth win in six games against College of Saint Benilde in the first seniors game at 1 p.m.

The Falcons is likewise aching to get back on winning track after a 67-65 loss to NU.
