One Cebu-allied House congressmen to form one single solid bloc
CEBU CITY (PNA) — Cebu Capitol consultant Rory Jon Sepulveda said the six House representatives in Cebu Province who are allied with the One Cebu Party will form one bloc so they can have a strong voice in Congress when the latter convenes in July.
Said House representatives are Cebu Reps. Eduardo R. Gullas (1st district), Pablo Garcia (2nd district), Pablo John Garcia (3rd district), Benhur Salimbangon (4th district), Ramon “Red” Durano IV (5th district) and Lugi Quisumbing (6th district).
Sepulveda said Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and the Cebuano House representatives from the six districts are in Manila now to meet with other legislators.
He said he expects the six legislators to invite newly elected House representatives – Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Rachel del Mar and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza– as well as the other congressmen to join the Visayas bloc.
Radaza is with Lakas-Kampi-CMD but Osmeña and Del Mar are with the Liberal Party.
The bloc will include congressmen in Bohol, namely, Erico Aumentado (2nd district), Rene Relampagos (1st district) and Arthur Yap (3rd district).
Aumentado is the outgoing governor and Relampagos is a former governor, while Yap is the former Department of Agriculture (DA) secretary who ran for congressman unopposed with the help of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Sepulveda said the One Cebu Party, which is allied with President Arroyo, is not sure if incumbent Lakas-Kampi-CMD congressmen in other parts of the country will remain with the administration or will jump to the camp of Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, currently leading in the presidential race.
“But I am sure that the Cebu congressmen are now thinking of how to promote Cebu’s economy, especially in their respective districts under the Aquino administration. They want that One Cebu’s programs and policies will be adopted,” Sepulveda said.
