A life lived with passion is a life well lived. It’s an adage many women live by. For them, passion is the key to living the life they love. Women like Joanne Ignacio and Anne Diaz Brenner take charge, living each day with purpose, but never forgetting to take care of themselves.

Ignacio, 26 and single, is one of those multi-talented women who take on various interests and takes pleasure in experiencing a variety of tasks.  She’s a communications officer of the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines), a non-government organization advocating environmental causes, but is also a television and live events host, and a fitness instructor who teaches yoga and boxing.

Brenner’s life is just as exciting as Ignacio’s. As a nurse paramedic with Lifeline Ambulance Rescue, Inc, a dedicated emergency quick response (EQR) group, she gets to provide medical assistance to a variety of people in need.  “This is my passion,” says Brenner, a devoted wife and mother to a 19-year-old. “I like to help people whenever I can… From the Lifeline Rockwell Clinic, where I work, (I get to do) home visits as requested by patients, monitoring their vital signs and answering questions about their health conditions.”

These two women leading very active lives are thankful that they are able to enjoy what the world has to offer, with a healthy body and a positive outlook.

Preparing for the future

The potentially back-breaking nature of Ignacio’s and Brenner’s jobs is not something both women are taking lightly. That’s why they recognize the importance of having a healthy body and strong  bones to be able to do their jobs well. They may be having fun at work now, but to be able to continue doing what they love to do best, both Ignacio and Brenner know that taking care of themselves, particularly their bones, has to be a primary goal.

Ignacio and Brenner both agree that exercise plays a big part as well.  “Yoga and boxing require strong bones, and yes, I can say that I have  them,” Ignacio declares. “(When I had the time), I used to play soccer every single day of the week.  I’m the adventurous sort so I like trying new things – I love a good adrenalin rush.”

Brenner says, “I like to keep myself active so I work out for at least two to three hours three times a week depending on my days off. I do resistance training and strengthening exercise. (Eventually,) I want to do a half marathon sometime in the future which is one item in my bucket list,” she adds with a smile.

Both also recognize the important role calcium plays in maintaining strong bones. Both Ignacio and Brenner envision themselves continuing to live active and productive lives as they grow older. And they are determined that being deficient in calcium will not be part of that future.
