Job applications swamp Times St.
The Times Street residence of President-apparent Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has been virtually transformed into an employment agency as scores of applications for various positions in the government continue to pour in even as the presidential front-runner remains to be tight-lipped on his choices for Cabinet positions.
Mar Rodriguez, personal staff of Aquino, said in one week alone they already received 170 letters consisting of applications for personal security or as head of particular departments and government agencies.
Greeting cards were also received from various parts of the world.
“We accept all the applications submitted to us, we do not throw anything,” Rodriguez told reporters.
He said all the letters and applications were eventually forwarded to the Senate office of Aquino where it will be logged in for appropriate actions.
Rodriguez also revealed that there were also prominent personalities who visited Times St. to submit their applications.
“There are people who come here with recommendations from prominent personalities,” he said.
Meanwhile, more and more names have surfaced as possible Cabinet officials under the looming administration of Aquino.
The list includes old faces such as former Cabinet officials Jaime Galvez Tan (Health), Dinky Soliman (Social Welfare), Roberto de Ocampo (Finance), Philip “Popoy” Juico (Agrarian Reform), Sonny Dominguez (Agriculture), and Butch Abad (Education).
Other old faces eyeing Cabinet positions are: Cesar Purisima (Finance), as Department of Trade and Industry secretary; Cesar Sarino (Local Government), as head of Social Security System; Ramon del Rosario (Finance), as secretary of Foreign Affairs; Avelino Cruz (Defense), as Department of Justice secretary; and Marge Juico, former appointments secretary of President Cory Aquino as head of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Other possible candidates include close friends such as Bong Naguiat as head of the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation; an old friend and Ateneo classmate of Aquino, Jose “Pete” Prado, for the Department of Transportation and Communications; Manila Water President Rene Almendras as secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways; Arben Santos for the Bureau of Customs; Eddie Gana for the Government Service and Insurance System; Jun Simon for the Department of the Interior and Local Government; Johnny Santos for the Department of Tourism; and Executive Secretary Jojo Ochoa.
