ABS-CBN and its partner organizations made another milestone in Philippine election coverage and proved its credibility among viewers and readers as its Halalan 2010 (#Halalan), became the third most popular trending topic worldwide on the microblogging site Twitter.

Manila Bulletin, the nation’s leading newspaper, which has established its reputation for comprehensive, fair and balanced news reportage for the last 110 years, is among the major cause partners of the network for this endeavor.

Contributing to its success in covering the historic first automated nationwide elections was the network’s utilization of new media such as social networking sites Twitter and Facebook in disseminating up-to-date information to the widest range of audience.

Comments made by Filipinos throughout the world posted on these sites, are shown on a huge 103-inch touch-screen monitor during ABS-CBN news programs, to make the coverage not only informative, but participative, as well.

ABS-CBN also used the most advanced technology in news reporting like the augmented reality and giant touch-screen TV. The visual experience helped viewers better understand news reports resulting in the domination of the network’s primetime news programs against rival shows.

The network also used the virtual presence technology, wherein news anchors discuss news reports with reported deployed in different areas, the same strategy used by international news giant CNN in their election coverage in 2008.

Based on a TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres) survey, TV Patrol World topped the national ratings on Election Day with 31.5 percent against GMA's 24 Oras with 25 percent.

But more than the high-tech facilities used, ABS-CBN was able to give the most comprehensive and up-to-date stories.
