FEU downs Mapua, reaches Filoil quarters

Defending champion Far Eastern University became the third team in Group B to enter the quarterfinals after it blasted Mapua, 86-72, Friday in the 2010 Filoil Flying V First Five Preseason Invitational Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tamaraws had four players in double figures as they raced to a big lead right at the opening tip off then led by 19 points on three occasions en route to their fifth win in seven tries.

FEU thus joined Group B leader Jose Rizal University (6-1) and NCAA champion San Sebastian (5-1) in the quarterfinals.

Earlier, College of Saint Benilde scored just six points in the final quarter but escaped National University with a 54-52 win.

In the third game, Marlon Gomez scored with 3.2 ticks left as Perpetual Help rallied from 15 points down to stun Emilio Aguinaldo College, 76-75.
