As the office of leading presidential candidate Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is swamped with applications for various government positions, leaders of volunteer organizations who helped in his campaign said on Thursday that the President-apparent should realize that there are other people who are as competent and as credible as former government officials and close friends to help him carry out his reform agenda.

Roy Sangil, president of the Association of the Socio-Economic Advancement of Pinoys Inc., said his group and others like them have expressed concern that choosing those who will be part of the official family could be a portent of things to come and definitely one that is not certain of a deviation from the current administration.

Sangil is referring to the initial list of Aquino appointees which, he claimed, as nothing but a “recycled” Arroyo Cabinet and even the possible appointment of several close friends of the senator from Tarlac.

“Now comes a new set of leaders taking the reins of government, but who admittedly have yet to prove their mettle. Thus, we urge (Aquino) to resist pressure to appoint his friends and those who have been part of the outgoing administration to the Cabinet,” Sangil said.

According to Sangil Aquino’s zero tolerance for corruption may not happen if he appoints those who have no experience in sensitive positions in government.

Sangil said Aquino succeeded in inspiring millions to rally around his banner and millions volunteered for his cause of good governance.
