Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz doesn’t think it right for president-elect Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Simeon Aquino III to heed his sister Kris Aquino’s endorsement of showbiz personalities for positions in his administration.

Cruz also implied that he thought it improper for the younger Aquino to be giving advice to her brother based on her background.

“It’s not proper that your right hand is your sister who is in the movie industry. It would’ve been alright if she is in governance, legislative or judiciary,” the religious leader shared in an interview on Radio Veritas recently.

Cruz’ statement apparently stemmed from announcement made by the president-elect regarding the possibility of him assigning government positions to some celebrities including TV talk show host Boy Abunda, actor Dindong Dantes and singer Ogie Alcasid.

Though the recently proclaimed 15th president of the country did not admit to it, it was the younger Aquino herself who revealed on TV that it was she who had recommended Abunda to her brother.

Cruz made it clear that he is not against the idea of showbiz personalities being installed in government positions but that they should at least show some know-how.

“They may have the goodwill but they might not really be that competent to join especially in legislative matters," he explained.

Cruz is hoping that Aquino would assign people in government positions based on competence and not out of gratitude.
