Newly proclaimed President-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III may hold the record as the country’s first bachelor to be elected to the highest post in the land but he is not yet keen on making another record of getting married in the Palace.

Aquino, 50, even joked about marital plans. “I’ll get in touch first with Madame Auring first if she has any prediction,” Aquino said, referring to the comic fortune teller that elicited cheers from the crowd.

Even during the campaign, Aquino said that marrying his girlfriend, Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad, is still far from his mind. He added that solving the country’s problems will be his priority for the next six years.

“Before and during the campaign, the question of when is the proper time to get married is the only question that I still cannot answer. We will try to answer that as soon as possible,” Aquino added.

His being a bachelor though won’t mean that one of his sisters will take the post of the First Lady, even his popular actress-sister Kris Aquino-Yap.

“Our mom has been president without a First Gentleman so we don’t see anything wrong if Noy doesn’t have a First Lady,” Ballsy Aquino-Cruz said.

But even if the Aquino sisters won’t be directly involved in government, Cruz said they will continue pursuing their advocacies as simple contributions to the administration of their brother.

Also, Aquino said that he is not inclined to grant the request of Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay to be appointed as Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“I have several candidates for the position. I will be talking with the VP-elect and we will come to something mutually agreeable,” Aquino said.

Aquino had earlier named Corazon “Dinky” Soliman, Teresita “Ging” Deles, and Paquito “Jojo” Ochoa to be part of his official family, but refused to name others, adding that he is still in the process of finalizing the composition of his Cabinet.
