Catholic schools in several parts of the country, through their respective archbishops and bishops, has formed a partnership with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Migrant and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI) to assist in the formation of minors whose parents are working abroad.

Fr. Edwin Carros, executive secretary of CBCP-ECMI said the partnership will make it easier to form overseas Filipino worker (OFW) support groups in various parts of the country because the schools “will only do a survey among elementary and high school students who have one or both parents abroad.”

The CBCP-ECMI has established links with Catholic schools in the Archdioceses of San Fernando (Pampanga), and Lipa (Batangas) as well as in the Dioceses of San Fernando (La Union), Bayombong (Nueva Vizcaya), and Imus (Cavite).

School guidance counselors have noted attitude problems including difficulties in comprehension and adjusting to regular school routines among children of migrant workers. School teachers have also noted below average school performance among some of the children.
