Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on Tuesday joined well wishers in congratulating Philippine president-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III on his victory in the May 2010 polls, and expressed optimism that the two countries will continue with its solid relationship.

“I believe that you will be able to carry out at best the difficult duty for which your fellow citizens have chosen you,” Berlusconi said in his message.

He added that Italy and the Philippines are linked by a solid bond of friendship and collaboration, which is constantly strengthened by the presence in their country of a numerous and active Filipino community.

“I am certain that we will continue to work together to give further strength to this friendly relations,” he said. (Angie Chui)
