Treston wins 3rd leg
Treston Laguna became the first host team to rule a Tournament of the Philippines leg after scoring a 99-88 victory over Ascof Lagundi Friday night in the finals held at the Trace College gym in Los Banos, Laguna.
Former La Salle cager JR Aquino and center Alain Musni led the Stallions back from an 11-point first half deficit and then Leomer Losentes and Ricky Ricafuente finished off Ascof with timely baskets in the payoff period to capture the third leg of this joint tournament by the Philippine Basketball League and Liga Pilipinas.
Laguna gained a total of 12 points in this leg to overtake idle M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Cebu for the lead with 18 points.
The Cough Busters had hoped to end their frustration against Treston following a second-place finish two weeks ago to Cebu. As a consolation, they collected 10 points to finish second overall with 17 points.
Former San Beda standout Bam Gamalinda and Raymond Aguilar finished with 20 points each for Ascof Lagundi.
Aquino and Musni had 18 points apiece while Ricafuente and Losentes added 14 and 12 points as the Stallions finally triumphed after two forgetful legs in Manila and General Santos City, respectively. Laguna finished third and fourth, respectively, in the first two legs.
Earlier, Mandaue clinched the third spot with an 84-83 win over Cobra Energy Drink. The Landmasters received five points while the Ironmen got just one point in this leg.
