Graft raps vs GMA baseless, says group
An organization has called the charges against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as baseless after militant groups filed fraud charges against her over the NBN-ZTE deal even though she and her husband have already been cleared by two probe bodies.
The Movement For Good Governance, with 50,000 members asked militant leaders like Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino to first prove their moral ascendancy before insisting on the guilt of Mrs. Arroyo despite the absence of proof.
Movement Chair Charlie Chua noted that months were spent by the Ombudsman and the Senate in investigating the NBN issue but not a single, indisputable proof was presented by the so-called witnesses.
“All the witnesses were given all the opportunity to prove their allegations but they did not have any solid proof apart from their own words. The deal was even cancelled by the President. So what is the basis now to still probe the Arroyos,” Chua said.
Chua said it is Casino and other militant leaders who have a lot of explaining to do.
“Militant groups continue to be deaf and dumb to the killings and atrocities on innocent civilians by communist rebels. They claim to be for the masses but they don’t say anything on the still unsolved slaughter of farmers at Hacienda Luisita and on Mendiola Bridge.’’
“People die and lives are shattered but curiously, militant leaders suddenly turn blind to this lawlessness. Where is the morality there,” Chua pointed out. (Robert R. Requintina)
