Charice pleads: ‘No more comparison with Lea’

Young singer Charice pleaded the public to stop comparing her to fellow international performer Lea Salonga.
"Nakabalik na siya, ako po’y papunta pa lang. Napakasuwerte ko na po na nakasama ako sa series (‘Glee’),” Charice told “TV Patrol” in an interview aired last July 2.
A so-called “cockfight” is said to have been spawned by a rumor saying that Salonga had earlier auditioned for the US TV series “Glee” but was not accepted. Charice, meanwhile, has been cast to be part of the show’s second season.
Salonga’s audition rumor had been refuted on a previous episode of “Tweetbiz” by host Tim Yap. What's true is that the Tony Award-winning theater actress had indeed expressed her desire to be part of “Glee.”
During the question-and-answer segment of her “Your Songs” concert last December 2009, Lea was asked by a fan if she would guest on the show. The Broadway singer, who is also a self-confessed big “Glee” fan, quickly exclaimed, “Oh my God, of course! If I had the opportunity, absolutely!”
That opportunity may not be far from possibility. The official Facebook page for “Glee” has put up the poll, “Which celebrity would you most like to see next season on ‘Glee’?” The “We want Lea Salonga on Glee!” fan page said she’s currently at third place (11 percent of votes), behind Bette Midler (16 percent) and Julie Andrews (13 percent).
It looks like all’s well between the two Pinay prides amid all the malicious rumors. Salonga herself congratulated Charice on the day she made the announcement that she’ll be on “Glee.”
"YES!!! Ipakita sa buong mundo ang henyo ng Pinoy!!!” she tweeted the YouTube sensation on June 22.
Charice, in turn, is grateful for Salonga’s support.
"Maraming salamat po sa mga messages na sine-send niya sa’kin. Talagang nafi-feel ko po ‘yong support niya, ‘di lang po sa’kin, [kundi pati] sa lahat din po ng mga Pinoy na may mga talents,” she said.
Before heading back to the United States for more promotional appearances for her international debut album, Charice will embark on her Asian Tour this month. According to her Mommy Raquel’s tweet on June 26, Charice will hold shows in Korea, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Shooting for the next season of “Glee” is also set to begin this July.
