A senior opposition lawmaker Sunday said that Lakas-Kampi-CMD lawmakers will heed the “marching order” issued by party chairperson and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for them to avoid being “obstructionists” in Congress.

Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez admitted that they will likely give the newly installed Aquino government enough time to pursue its social, economic and political reform agenda and will play the role of “fiscalizers” sparingly and only when needed.

“The marching order of GMA is to support the administration. Do not be obstructionist, she told us,” said Suarez.

But while LKC adopted a less combative stance in the Lower House, its membership is being dissipated by unabated piracy courtesy of the Liberal Party.

LP sources said they expect at least 30 original LKC members to become turncoats for the Liberal before the 15th Congress opens on July 26.

Aside from defections to LP, a rift between original Lakas and Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino congressmen has prompted some 40 Kampi solons to forge an alliance with Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte, who will be the Liberal’s nominee for speaker.

Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga said the 50 Kampi solons, who will remain members of LKC, will not be supporting Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, their party’s nominee for speaker.
