GMA allies seek to defer barangay polls
Allies of ex-president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo are batting for the deferment of the barangay polls set on October, 2010 and instead simultaneously conduct it with the election of constitutional convention delegates next year.
Lakas-Kampi-CMD solons led by Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez aired the proposal as they slammed critics of Arroyo’s proposal for charter change via constitutional convention for showing glaring prejudice against the former president’s legislative proposal.
Suarez reminded leaders of the Liberal Party, including President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, that it was their party that spearheaded the bid to amend the 1987 Constitution by convening the constitutional convention.
A former LP member, Suarez said Arroyo’s main objective in seeking Charter change is to amend its economic provisions which are being blamed for the country’s inability to address its economic woes.
“Why is it that when GMA files a bill, it is bad, when it is the Liberal, it is good.
They are the same bill,” Suarez noted.
