Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on Wednesday said she would meet with National Bureau of Investigation Nestor Mantaring regarding reports that Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson is in the country.

“Napapabalita ngayon na nandito siya sa Pilipinas but I don’t have any knowledge about that so magpupulong kami ni Director Mantaring para malaman ko yung exact status kung mayroon silang any reliable information on that regard,” De Lima said in an interview at the sidelines before the Red Mass at the Manila Cathedral.

De Lima assured that the Department of Justice would do its job to prosecute those who are accused of violating the law.

De Lima said that since Lacson is facing a non-bailable offense, “he has to face the force of the law because there is an outstanding warrant of arrest against him for the Bubby Dacer and Emmanuel Corbito double murder case.

“It’s up to his lawyers to devise a remedy,” De Lima said, noting that the warrant of arrest would surely be questioned by Lacson’s lawyers.

“May bail hearing sigurado yan,” she said.

De Lima said she has yet to talk with Dacer’s kin but she assured them of the government’s commitment to hold accountable those who have violated the law.
