President Noynoy Aquino on Thursday expressed his readiness to answer questions from the media on any topics except show business.

The President said he has some reservations to answer questions about the entertainment field during his first press conference in Malacañang last Wednesday.

“Kahit ano, okay lang huwag lang showbiz. Hindi ako showbiz,” (anything, except showbiz. I’m not showbiz), he said , reiterating his readiness to face the members of the media even on a weekly basis.

Mr. Aquino, who said he is willing to hold a weekly press conference in lieu of ambush interviews, also tried to prevent reporters from asking him questions about the affairs of her youngest sister, television host Kris.

He was also dogged by media questions about his famous sister during the presidential campaign, but politely declined to answer them.

Kris recently revealed on television that her marriage to basketball star James Yap was over. Yap, in another interview, replied that he plans to win back his wife.

The President’s apparent dislike for showbiz questions was in contrast to his predecessor who refused to discuss political questions by journalists.

Former President Arroyo, during her incumbency, was irked by questions about politics following her alleged involvement in the Hello Garci scandal in 2005.

In the hour-long press conference, Mr. Aquino was candid and straightforward in answering questions about pork barrel funds, government appointments, the fertilizer fund scam, truth commission, among others.

He also aired his excuse for being late for the Red Mass at the Manila Cathedral last Wednesday morning, claiming he had a bum stomach and had difficulty sleeping the previous night due to power outages. (Genalyn Kabiling)
