Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, detained on rebellion charges over The Peninsula Manila hotel standoff three years ago, was granted temporary liberty by a Makati City court after posting bail on Thursday afternoon.

But Trillanes may not get his wish to be released from detention as he still faces a separate charge in connection with the Oakwood takeover in 2003.

Judge Elmo Alameda of the Makati Regional Trial Court, Branch 150, ordered Trillanes’ release after he posted P200,000 bail.

In the one-page order, Alameda ordered the acting chief Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City to immediately release the accused senator from detention unless held for other offenses.

Since Trillanes faces a separate charge, it is unlikely that he will be released.

Trillanes was the last among 17 individuals, including defeated senatorial candidate Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, who posted bail on charges that they allegedly took over The Peninsula Manila hotel and called for the resignation of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
