LTO looks into shortage of plates, stickers

July 16, 2010, 6:46pm

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Assistant Secretary Virginia Torres has vowed to investigate the shortage of plates, stickers, official receipts, and certificates of registration in the agency.

Torres said that the agency will trace the missing supplies, adding that the move is part of her house-cleaning measure aimed at ridding the LTO of corrupt personnel.

“My first concern is why we are running out of plates, stickers, OR, and CR. I want to know why there is a scarcity when these supplies are being paid for by our transacting public,” she said.

It was recalled that Torres admitted being unaware that a number of LTO personnel are working in connivance with fixers and illegal manufacturers of LTO original plates, OR, and CR.

She was even surprised when the media told her that fake stickers, plates, official receipts, and certificates of receipt are being manufactured at shops near the LTO compound on East Avenue in Quezon City despite the persistent raids of the Philippine National Police (PNP). (Kris Bayos)
