Charice has hogged headlines anew after she underwent Botox and thermage procedures recently in preparation for her stint on "Glee."

Her representative, however, is not happy with the mileage, telling E! Online that the matter got “blown out of proportion.”

Reports seemed to have implied that Charice underwent the said treatments for cosmetic reasons, something which her rep refuted.

“Charice received some Botox shots in her jaw due to muscle pain and she had a facial,” the rep said.

In another article on Us Magazine, the rep maintained, “It did not hurt; it relieved the pain. You've seen her face - she doesn't have a wrinkle in it so she wouldn't need it for cosmetic purposes. The ‘Glee’ people are thrilled with the way she looks which is why she got the part."

“TV Patrol” reported on July 20 that an insider from the Belo Medical Clinic, where Charice underwent the treatments (performed by celebrity doctor and her godmother Vicki Belo) last Saturday, July 17, revealed that the Botox and thermage procedures were to treat Charice’s Bruxism, more popularly known as “teeth-grinding” in sleep due to involuntary muscle movements.

CNN stated that Botox can aid in alleviating pain caused by related condition TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder)--something which Belo seemingly failed to point out.

In an article on abs-cbnNEWS.com, Belo said the treatments were meant to narrow Charice’s “naturally round face” (which had become “wider,” Belo noticed, out of chewing bubble gum). Her statements were picked up by some of the world’s most renowned media agencies, such as the Asosciated Press, CNN, People, MTV, Us Magazine, E! News, and Los Angeles Times.

Meanwhile, “24 Oras” reported a follow-up story on July 20 that CNN, E! News and top celebrity blog Perez Hilton.com picked up the program’s story on Charice’s controversial treatments. Interestingly, the video of the news uploaded on GMA News.TV on July 19 was titled “Charice undergoes cosmetic fix for ‘Glee’.” “TV Patrol,” on the other hand, wrote “Nagparetoke” on its teaser for the Botox news they aired on Monday.

Charice herself was quoted in an interview (“24 Oras,” July 19) that she got the treatments as part of her “big preparation” for “Glee.” "Syempre gusto ko rin namang magmukhang fresh paglabas ng camera,” she admitted.

The Botox/thermage controversy generated mixed reactions online, and even ranked sixth on Twitter’s worldwide trending topics last July 19, abs-cbnNEWS.com wrote. Many were anxious that a young lady like Charice, 18, got Botox---which is widely perceived as an anti-aging treatment.

Mommy Raquel tweets

Charice’s mother Raquel Pempengco poured out her sentiments on the matter via her Twitter account on July 20. She seems to be blaming Belo for this global ruckus involving her daughter.

“BELO BROKE THE CONFIDENTIALITY BETWEEN THE PATIENT AND THE DOCTOR...” one of her tweets read.

Mommy Raquel is also worried that the issue could affect Charice’s blooming international career.

“DON'T MAKE IT BIG DEAL PLS? IT MIGHT EFFECT TO CHA'S CAREER,BELO IF YOU READ THIS HELP CHARICE TO ACHIEVE HER DREAM DON'T PUSH HER DOWN.

“BAD NEWS I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE... (tears) LET'S WAIT FOR THE RESULT FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO CHARICE BELO...” she posted.

Belo tweets, too

When sought for comment by GMA News, Belo is said to have declined. However, the controversial doctor took to Twitter her clarification that “i did not do anything surgical with charice.”

“Just a facial and thermage. No nose job. She's fine the way she is ü,” she tweeted on July 18.

Although Charice has been a Belo client for three years, she never went under any procedure or treatment other than a facial.

While Mommy Raquel alleged that Belo broke confidentiality rules between patient and doctor, a post over Belo Clinic’s Twitter account on July 19 read: “As with all endorsers, this wouldn't have been made public without Charice's knowledge & consent.”

Another post in reply to another user stated that the “Pyramid” singer had a facial “because she has some acne.”

Belo Medical Group also posted photos of Charice getting “Belofied” with the procedures, plus information sheets about Botox and thermage, in their Facebook account.

“24 Oras” showbiz reporter Nelson Canlas said that Belo maintained in his recent interview with her that what she did with Charice weren’t cosmetic procedures.

Ryan Murphy rewriting Charice’s episodes?

Getting treatments are said to be opposite the essence of “Glee,” which is staying true and loving yourself and not caring about what other people might say or think.

New York Magazine said in a brief article posted July 19 that Charice’s Botox and thermage treatments “forced” the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, “to rewrite Charice’s episode to contain the message: It's important to love and embrace one’s naturally round face as it is.”
