Bobby Garcia’s directorial prowess will be tested anew when he directs the musical "Sacrifice" at West End in London.

“I am really excited to be at the helm in this unique project as we head to London’s West End. The love story of ‘Sacrifice’ is one of the greatest of all time. The score is a beautiful fusion of ancient Chinese and modern western sound,” said Bobby in an article published by on another newspaper.

Lead producer Toby Simkin (“Victor/Victoria,” “I Am My Own Wife”) enthused that Bobby is the “perfect choice” to direct "Sacrifice" given the expanse of his experience and expertise.

“I have known Bobby for years and I greatly respect his unique ability to re-tell a foreign story to Asian audiences with his Asian productions of ‘The King And I,’ ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella’ and ‘Hairspray,’ I have been searching for a director with an Asian sensibility to tell our love story to western audiences,” he said.

Development for the musical began as early as April this year, with Bobby working hand-in-hand with “Sacrifice” book author and lyricist Kenneth Clarke and music composers Richard Daniels and Mark Troop. An Asian workshop production is said to precede the London opening.

Fellow Filipino and veteran theater singer-actress Ima Castro has joined Bobby and the “Sacrifice” team to record some demo mixes for the musical in London. The two have previously worked in a staging of “Miss Saigon” where Ima played the role of Kim.

"The studio recording sessions allow us to sit back, listen carefully, take notes and see what works and what doesn't work. It will help us map out the next part of our journey in creating this show as we work towards a workshop production next year," said Bobby.

He said the following on teaming up with Ima again: “We couldn't have asked for more.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled that a performer of her caliber and star quality has lent her talent to us for this part of the process.”

“Sacrifice” tells the classic story of Tang Dynasty emperor Xuanzong and his concubine Yang GuiFei, who is said to be one of China’s most beautiful women. A love triangle forms when they decided to adopt An Lushan, a barbarian and China’s greatest villain.

Prior to “Sacrifice,” Bobby has directed acclaimed productions such as “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Avenue Q,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “Rent.” He has also directed plays staged in other Asian countries like Singapore, China, Malaysia, Korea, and Hong Kong.

Bobby is also directing the local staging of “Xanadu,” “A Little Night Music” starring Dawn Zulueta, and “Next to Normal.” The play date for “Sacrifice” will be announced soon.
