Malacañang hopes 15th Congress will pass Aquino's priority measures
MANILA (Xinhua) — Malacañang welcomes the election of new leaders of both Houses of the Philippine Congress as it hopes that they will prioritize the legislative measures of President Benigno Aquino III's administration.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda congratulated Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., who got overwhelming support from their respective colleagues at the opening of the 15th Congress.
"We look forward to a harmonious working relationship with both Houses," Lacierda said in a text message sent to reporters Monday.
"As seasoned legislators, they are fully aware of the concerns of our country and we hope that the two leaders will give priority to our President's legislative agenda," he added.
The leaders of both Houses were elected hours before Aquino delivers his first State of the Nation Address at the House of Representatives in Quezon City.
Aquino is expected to disclose the current state of the government, the solutions that his administration will undertake to address the problems and the priority legislative measures.
Guests, including members of the press, have started to arrive at the House to witness the event.
