A pregnant woman died along with her unborn baby as she failed to reach the hospital in time after being stuck in heavy traffic Monday morning along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on the day of the President Noynoy Aquino's first-ever State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA).

Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, chief of the homicide investigation section of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), identified the pregnant woman as Jonalyn Rapisto, 21-years old.

Elenzano said that the woman was rushed to the Fairview Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival along with her unborn child.

In the meantime, Elenzano said that they have yet to determine what was the cause of death of the woman as they wait for the result of the autopsy.

Rapisto was aboard a taxi with her neighbor Narila Samongpakira as she was being rushed to the hospital.

The pregnant woman could have been brought to the nearer General Malvar Hospital or the New Era Hospital.

But because of the heavy traffic, the taxi driver brought the woman to a medical team that he saw was on standby along Commonwealth Avenue at around 7:30 a.m.

According to Philippine Army medical doctor Stephanie Go, their attention was called by a taxi driver who claimed he had a sick passenger in his cab.

She added that based on the driver’s statement, he decided to bring the woman to the medical team because traffic was heavy at that time along Commonwealth Avenue.

The army doctor said Rapisto already had no pulse when she was brought to them at their station near the police command post.

Nevertheless, the pregnant woman was still rushed to Fairview Medical center.
