Lifestyle check urged for gov't officials
A legislator in the House of Representatives on Tuesday urged government agencies to conduct a lifestyle check on its officials, particularly those in the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor).
San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito also called to investigate Pagcors former chairman Efraim Genuino, who maybe involved in some questionable transactions in the agency.
“There is an urgent need for a lifestyle check on former chairman Genuino and his men and an in-depth auditing of Pagcors under the previous administration,” Ejercito said
“An immediate probe on Genuino and his men is substantial to the Aquino administration’s battle against corruption particularly with the recent discovery of the P21-million worth of burgers and chicken,” Ejercito said.
Ejercito said that going after the alleged bagman of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and his involvement in anomalous issues as chairman of Pagcor is a crucial step towards ending corruption in the agency.
The son of former President Joseph Ejercito said he is supporting President Aquino’s proposal to privatize Pagcors so as to stop corruption in the agency that could cover the deficits shortchanged from previous government.
He said the Pagcors being a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) has no use to the government if the government does not get its fair share of revenues.
Atty. Jay Santiago, Pagcor’s spokesperson said the amount used in the purchase of the burgers and chicken is too huge to be paid for in advance by a single person if the truth of the story is to be believed.
Santiago also questioned the certification documents made on the issuance of the check used for the payment of the burgers saying the documents were ready on June 28 and only needs to be signed but the certification showed it was dated on June 29 which means that the certification was made after the check was issued.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Supt. Roberto Rosales has admitted they had received food provision from the Pagcor but said he had no idea how much was spent for it.
