President Benigno Aquino III should reveal the names of local and foreign businessmen who want to lease the headquarters and naval station of the Philippine Navy on Roxas Boulevard, lawmakers in the House of Representatives Friday urged.

Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez said the minority bloc in the House wants to help President Aquino in double checking the sincerity of the investors, who signified intention to lease the Naval headquarters and station in Manila for an initial amount of $100 million on top of monthly earnings from the business.

Suarez, a staunch ally of former President Arroyo, justified that the disclosure of details about the arrangement to lease military properties would ensure that the Filipino people will indeed benefit more in the plan.

"We want to assist (President Aquino) in the proper implementation of the contract...but we have reservation about it because his approach was too simplistic on the partnership... we need to know if this will have to go through public bidding or BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) or what," Suarez said.

He also cautioned the government about some investors, who are businessmen that expect actually more in return than what they initially offer, which could put the government and ultimately the Filipino people in a difficult situation.

Zambales Rep. Maria Milagros Magsaysay added that they also need to know the names of the investors, their terms, and duration of lease contract in order for the government to have a reference that would guide the administration in entering the contract.

The lady lawmaker issued the statement after Aquino announced that local and foreign investors offered to lease the naval headquarters and station, which will allow the major military service to return to Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City and contribute revenues for the government.

The minority bloc issued the unsolicited advise to show their sincerity in supporting efforts of the new government.
