Manila, Cebu dispute baseball title
Game this Saturday (Felino Marcelino Baseball Stadium, Taguig City)
1:30 p.m. — Manila vs Cebu (Series tied at 1-1)
Manila and Cebu dispute the Dunkin' Donuts Baseball Philippines Series 6 crown as the two teams collide in their rubber match this Saturday at the Felino Marcelino Baseball Stadium in Barangay Ususan, Taguig City.
The Dolphins extended the series to a pivotal third game last week when they hacked out a 10-9 victory behind a three-run explosion in the eighth inning capped by a go-ahead, run-scoring hit by centerfielder Jonash Ponce.
Ponce, a member of the RP national team, went 4-of-5 with four runs-batted-in (RBI) to power Cebu in that contest that put them on the threshold of winning their third crown.
The Sharks, backed by Harbour Centre, are gunning for their first win.
But the Dolphins of coach Saki Bacarisas should expect a splendid pitching performance from Manila hurler Jonjon Robles, who led the Sharks to a 5-3 win in Game 1.
In that win, the lefty Robles replaced the struggling Charlie Labrador and surrendered only one hit to take the win.
However, the former UAAP Most Valuable Player and one-time standout of Arrows Ostrava of the Czech Republic's Extraliga, was ineligible in Game 2 of tossing more than 50 pitches.
In Game 2, Labrador was tagged for 11 hits.
Also expected to lead Manila's attack are Saxon Omandac, Francis Candela, Rommel Roja, Nino Tator and Jenald Pareja while Cebu will likewise tap ace pitcher Joseph Orillana, Miggy Corcuera, and Fongs Rances.
