2 senatorial bets clarify poll expenses
Two losing senatorial candidates of Bangon Pilipinas have filed clarificatory notes to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) explaining their campaign expenditures.
Senatorial candidates Kata Inocencio and Alex Tinsay, in separate letters addressed to Comelec Law Department head Ferdinand Rafanan, said they never intended nor desired to delay the filing of a Report on Election Contributions and Expenditures (RECE).
The two filed their manifestations following reports that they along with other candidates in the last May 10 elections failed to submit the RECE and could be liable for violating election laws.
“I was surprised with media reports dated July 2 and July 18, that I, together with several other Bangon Pilipinas candidates, have allegedly not submitted a Report on Contributions and Expenditures for the May 2010 Automated National and Local Elections. Until the media reports came out, I was not aware that I had to file an individual report outside of what had already been filed by Bangon Pilipinas because I have not been informed officially of any Comelec action on the matter,” Inocencio said in her letter.
