As far as the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares is concerned, the to impose 12 percent Value- Added Tax (VAT) on toll of all expressways in the country will start August 16.

"Yes. We already issued the revenue memorandum circular," Henares said in an interview when asked if the plan to impose VAT on toll will push through on Aug. 16.

Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) Spokesman Julius Corpuz said he also does not know of any change of plan regarding the collection of VAT on toll fees.

"I have no information if fate has been changed on the VAT implementation," Corpuz said.

The plan, however, has been repeatedly deferred since 2005.

Henares earlier said imposing the 12 percent VAT on toll rates would enable the government to collect P1 billion worth of taxes for the government every month. She said it is up for the TRB to factor in the 12 percent VAT determine on current toll rates.
