Games Sunday (The Arena, San Juan)
2 p.m. - St. Benilde vs Perpetual Help
4 p.m. - Lyceum vs National University

Far Eastern University pounced on the erratic plays of the inexperienced of University of Perpetual Help to post a 25-23, 26-24, 25-22 victory and clinch the third quarterfinals berth in the second conference of the 7th Shakey's V-League on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan City.

With Cherry Vivas, guest players Rachelle Anne Dacquis and Michelle Carolino coming through with clutch hits in each of the hard-fought sets, the Lady Tamaraws registered their fourth straight victory.

FEU dropped its first two assignments.

The win - which took just 78 minutes to finish - allowed the Lady Tamaraws to join San Sebastian College-Excelroof and Adamson University in the next stage of the event backed by Mikasa, Accel and Excelroof.

Vivas, the reigning UAAP MVP winner, topscored with 13 points, including four blocks as the Lady Tamaraws stormed into the quarterfinals for the sixth time since 2007.

FEU's entry to the quarterfinals, which will start on August 15, was a marked improvement from the team's performance in the previous conference where it bowed out of contention without winning in four games.

Despite the win, FEU coach Nestor Pamilar was far from being satisfied.

"We did not take our game seriously that's why we had a hard time in each set. We had a poor services and weak blocking," Pamilar said. "So I told them not to be complacent."

The Lady Tamaraws saw themselves in deep trouble after traling 22-24 in the second set but Carolino and Vivas came to the team’s rescue.

After the Lady Altas committed a net error in the next play, Carolino unloaded back-to-back smashes before Vivas closed out the set with down-the-line hit.

The Lady Altas actually had a chance to extend the match when they led 20-18 in the third set, but could not sustain their fiery form to slip to their fifth loss in six games.

Carolino, a former national team mainstay, finished with 11 hits while Dacquis and Monique Tiangco had 10 points apiece as the Tamaraws warmed up for their showdown with title favorite San Sebastian on August 13.

FEU actually neutralized the Perpetual Help as no Altas managed to score in double figures with Sandra Delos Santos, Perpetual's top scorer, was held to nine points after scoring 16 points last time out.
